A Gentle and relaxing walk with dramatic views

The walk from Ambleside; via Loughrigg Tarn, Loughrigg Terrace, and Rydal Caves is a scenic and moderately challenging circular route that offers a variety of picturesque landscapes in the Lake District.

The initial climb provides expansive views over Ambleside and the surrounding fells. As you reach Loughrigg Tarn, a serene body of water nestled among rolling hills, the scenery becomes increasingly tranquil and idyllic. The tarn is a perfect spot for a quick refresshment and to enjoy the natural beauty.

Continuing on, the route takes you to Loughrigg Terrace, a well-known viewpoint that offers stunning vistas of Grasmere and Rydal Water. The terrace is a highlight of the walk, providing an excellent opportunity for photography and a place to appreciate the dramatic landscape.

The path then descends gently towards Rydal Water, leading you to the fascinating Rydal Caves. These man-made caves, created during the 19th century through quarrying, provide an interesting historical interlude and a fun exploration point along the walk.

From the caves, the trail loops back towards Ambleside, following well-trodden paths that meander through wooded areas and open countryside. This part of the walk is relatively easy and allows for a leisurely return to the starting point.
